buying a whole album

So what does it take for me to buy a whole album these days?  Before we had digital downloads, all you had was records, 8 track tapes, cassettes and now cd's.

So I bought full albums , but sometimes I found myself only liking a few of the songs.  I would sit there and skip a song just get to the songs I liked. Now with digital download I can by pass songs I don't want and buy individual songs. I hate when  I buy an album (yes I still call them albums) and only find but a couple of songs, my best example would be Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi"album.  I was disappointed in that album. I spent $12 and I only liked two of the songs.  So now I don't buy an album unless there is at least 4 of the songs I really like.  This way I don't feel like I'm waisting my money.  I like this option but then I can agree if you don't buy the whole album, you might miss out on hearing a great song that doesn't make the airways.
Lately I have been reading a few articles on how artist are under the gun to produce a hit single, since most people are only buying individual songs instead of the whole album.  Plus CNN ran a segment on "what happen to just making music"
I'm not knocking today's music verses past music , since I love both, but I can agree with that todays artist seem to have to put on a big production to sell their music, to where in the past artist just created great music and people could enjoy music like we should enjoy music.

In my last blog I posted a song by One Republic.  The head singer Ryan Tedder has been a long time song writer, that has produced many songs for other artist until he finally decided to step up to the mic himself and formed the group called One Republic.
Their latest album is out and this is one  I plan on buying. The last album I bought was NeedToBreathe's last album.

This new album from One Republic has various songs on it that incorporate different nationalities into the song. I love the feel they give to each song and can see many of them making the airways.

I love several of the songs "If I Lose Myself"  and "Burning Bridges" are a couple of them.

So enjoy listening to the whole album like I am.

  1. Man... when I was a whipper snapper, I couldn't wait for my favorite musicians to come out with a new album!

With digital downloading and all, that part of the music industry has died....

It's not even the same any more...

    :o(

  2. Hey Shoes! Yes things have certainly changed. Some of it was a good change , I think?

but there are the bad things about it too....

I hope you got a chance to listen to it... if you haven't yet then I also recommend Preacher and the acoustic version of Burning Bridges..

Hope you have a great Easter!
